WDM7557 Magnetic Dust Port Specification

The WDM7557 Specification is an Open Source dust collection magnetic attachment system meant for 2.5″ dust collection hoses. It is genderless, meaning that any module can snap to any other. With eightfold radial symmetry, modules can snap together in 45 degree increments. The design is optimized for 3D printing. The 6mm x 3mm (or 1/4″ x 1/8″) magnets are positioned with alternating vertical stagger and polarity, ensuring that two WDM7557 modules align and physically interlock, thereby reducing the likelihood of them twisting or shearing apart.

Assembly

Each hole should be reamed with a drill bit the same diameter as your chosen magnets (either 6mm or 1/4″). The polarity of the magnets should be determined using a compass or a reference magnet. Magnets should be superglued into each hole for long-term stability. It is recommended to insert all North-outward magnets first, then all South-outward.
